Birding at Norfolk

Sedge Warbler at Titchwell reserve

Norfolk is a great place for birding and wildlife photography in England. I had visited Norfolk earlier this month mainly to photograph common seals but there are lots of opportunities for wildlife. I will most likely be visiting this place in the winter because this is the best time for migratory birds and geese and also grey seals which are easily visible while on foot along Horsey beach in Norfolk. I had spent around 4 nights here and it felt a bit short so a second visit is due.

Flock of Oyster Catchers

There are quite a number of nature reserves in the county of Norfolk and wildlife can be seen anywhere however it is not possible to go to each and every one of them within a few days so the recommended places are Cley Marshes, RSPB Titchwell and Holkham Hall.

Redshank at Cley Marshes

Holkham Hall is a large estate with it’s own private nature reserve comprising of many trails that can be around 4 miles and for the photographer, this can take an entire day to explore. Cley Marshes is one of the many reserves managed by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust and this is a good place to see water birds and waders. Titchwell Nature Reserve is managed by the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds).

Nesting Sandwich Terns at Blakeney Point

Therefore I intend to visit in the month of either November or December and will plan to go to Horsey Beach and the Snettisham reserve also managed by the RSPB. But at this time, it is too early to plan things now so will see how things go.
