Sightseeing in Gangtok

I had travelled to Gangtok just last month in January. Gangtok is located in the state of Sikkim and it was my first time here. I had travelled from Patna junction to New Jalpaiguri junction and from there got a cab that took me up to Gangtok. The road trip took just over 4 hours. Anyhow I had spent a full week here and I am sharing some of my photos. This would give an idea of which locations to visit if one has very less time.

At Nathu La located at 14140ft or 4309m above sea-level.
This is the Baba Harbajan Singh Memorial Temple built in the memory of Harbajan Singh who was a soldier of the Indian Army. He died near Nathu La in Eastern Sikkim.
This is Tsomgo Lake and as I had visited in the month of January, the lake was entirely frozen.
The area around Tsomgo Lake is visited by tourists or travellers all year round. The Yaks are there for anyone wanting to go experience a short ride on the Yak. These Yaks are different than the wild ones and appear quite tame.
This is Enchey Monastery and is one of the oldest and sacred monasteries in Sikkim. It was built in 1908 by the king of Sikkim.
Banjhakri Falls in Gangtok. This I felt was one of the most scenic falls around Gangtok during the winter months as the other falls did not have much flow of water. The falls is part of the Banjhakri Falls and Energy Park which is a tourist attraction around Gangtok.

 

View of Lhasa Falls and this is about 6 km from the Gangtok city centre. The best time to visit is during or just after the monsoon season.
Hanuman Tok is a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the Hindu monkey God.
In Hanuman Tok, there is an observation deck where one can get a good view of nearby hills and valleys with the majestic Himalayan peaks appearing in the background.
Ganesh Tok is a Ganesh Temple and is dedicated to Lord Ganesh, the Hindu deity of wisdom and prosperity.

View of the valley taken from Tashi View Point. Tashi View Point is a popular scenic viewpoint located in Gangtok where one can get great views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks specifically Mount Kanchenjunga and Mount Siniolchu.

Ranka Monastery is one of the most beautiful monasteries in East Sikkim and is surrounded by forests on all sides.

Kupup Lake or Elephant Lake is almost 14000 feet above sea-level. The lake is shaped like an elephant.
