Common mormon caterpillar macro photography

Here are some photos of the common mormon caterpillar seen in the garden area where I currently reside. The common mormon is a common species of the swallowtail butterfly. These are found all across Asia.

I had used the Canon 7D and Canon Canon 70-300mm EF f/4-5.6 lens with a 2X closeup filter attached to the end of the lens. The purpose of the filter is that it allows me to get very close to what I am photographing. In my view, this filter is as good as owning a macro lens. For macro shots, one would require to set the camera on a steady tripod.  This is because when photographing bugs and insects at close proximity, this would often result in slow shutter speeds and a lot of camera shake due to the narrow field of focus.
