Review of Gorayya Homestay in Dehradun

Gorayya Homestay

I had taken decision to relocate to Dehradun and I feel it is a good choice made. This decision was made after doing some research online and also after spending a week in Dehradun in early January of this year. Once everything was decided to make my base in Dehradun, I had arrived here on the 28th of March from Noida and we needed a good place to stay. I had checked out a few options and had finally decided on Gorayya Homestay. This is a private homestay and it was a bit on the high side but worth it. We stayed here for 3 nights.

The reason for choosing to stay here was mainly the homestay is located in a peaceful location with forests all around. This place is suited for people with an interest in nature or even for bird watching. Early morning and during the late afternoon, I used to watch and photograph birds that used to come and feed on the various feeders placed around the homestay. Some birds even nest here in various custom made bird boxes. As the name suggests, there was lots of Gorayya or house sparrows seen.

We booked the suite and terrace room which included breakfast only. Lunch and dinner was extra but well worth the cost as it was more than enough for 2 or more people. Food was freshly cooked and the host provided good level of hospitality.  Lunch and dinner was served buffet style with a good portion of rice, dal, vegertables and meat. There are two assistants that work hard to make the stay for the guests quite welcoming.

The room was quite spacious with a storage area to accomodate all our lugguage. We had around 5 suitcases plus upto 4 to 5 bags of all our stuff.

There is both an indoor and outdoor dining area however we preferred the outdoor dining area. If one would like, they could go and read adjacent to the outdoor dining area.

There are a good number of bird photos framed on the walls and also a good collection of books and magazines in the living room. One can spend an entire day reading or relaxing here. Or you could also decide to take a short walk down to the river for a day of relaxing and some nature photography.

Some nearby attractions are Malsi Deer Park, Robbers Cave and you could also easily access Mussoorie from here. There are also some shops nearby as well as a SBI ATM in walking distance.

All in all, this is a great place to stay and I will highly recommend this place for its location and hospitality.
